SPRING SESSION 2020

HELLO BEAUTIFUL SPRING

Welcome to a colourful, bright and stimulating series of painting classes designed for kids age 5-9. This is THE program for kids who love love love painting! Each student will receive a canvas flat to create a masterpiece the whole family can love. Through these sessions, we will embark upon a vibrant and stimulating exploration of what it means to truly paint. This series is designed to help students develop a language and style in painting. Students will explore a variety of techniques and applications. This series is a beautiful first step for kids who express time and time again that they love painting. These sessions are a great stepping stone for kids who are eager or excited to explore the more technically advanced Intro To Oil Painting series with me when they get older.

Students will be guided throughout five class sessions to create a spring-inspired apple blossom landscape painting. One of these sessions will be in a local apple orchard when the blooms pop so we can capture the energy of the blossoms in En Plein Air! En Plein Air painting (for those who are curious and might not be familiar- is a French term that describes the experience of painting and drawing in the landscape. The age-old in practice goes back for centuries but was truly made into an art form by the French Impressionists. The technical aspect most nurtured in this series lies in the delicate balance of teaching students how to see their content in relation to the principals of art while gently moving aside to let them develop their own language and style in painting. This is a beautiful age appropriate dance that honours their ventures into their imagination and their curiosities in building skills.

Students will learn how to mix, blend and apply paint in a fun and functional way. These sessions are well guided so your child will learn new and lasting painting techniques while honouring the season they are in. Their confidence will grow as their artwork transforms from blank canvas to colourful painting. Parents will experience this transformation too as they see their child’s painting evolve and grow in the studio! In this series we will paint a beautiful blooming orchard- one of the most stunning landscapes we are so lucky to be surrounded by.

Paintings are made on hand-cut and primed canvas. Finished work can be hung as is by pins or can be custom stretched by an art professional on canvas bars. I can refer this.

“If an apple blossom or a ripe apple could tell its own story, it would be, still more than its own, the story of the sunshine that smiled upon it, of the winds that whispered to it, of the birds that sang around it, of the storms that visited it, and of the motherly tree that held it and fed it until its petals were unfolded and its form developed.”

-Lucy Larcom, poet
