PA DAY CAMP
Friday NOVEMBER 22nd, 2024
Join me at the studio for a day full of festive art making! In this special holiday-flavoured art camp, students will sculpt, draw and paint meaningful holiday artworks they can share with your family this season.
What is a Christmas Mushroom? Students will sculpt their very own Lucky Mushroom Ornament (yes it’s really a thing!) and learn all about how this earthly tiding symbolizes a reverence for nature and hope for good fortune in the year to come. Did you know hanging a mushroom on a Christmas Tree is a symbol of good luck? Inspired by the alpine regions of European tradition, our mushrooms will be sculpted with surprise ingredients. Finished ornaments will be absolutely stunning and will last for years and years, and I hope add a special lucky feeling to your holiday traditions.
But that is not all, students in this camp will turn to another delight found in Scandinavian lore and sculpt and shape their own tiny Christmas gnome. A tradition in my own family, our tiny clay gnomes live at the base of our Christmas tree and add magical elements of forest lore. Some enjoy blueberry pancakes, some hold golden treasure and some are gardeners (imagine tiny clay beets and carrots). Together we will learn the story of the Tomten (a mythical creature from nordic folklore) and see how one’s sense of compassion can lead to a tender act of generosity. In a season of giving and receiving, this sweet story will surly inspire your children.
To add to our visual experience, students will watch a stunning handcrafted, stop-motion short film called An Almost Christmas Story. An Almost Christmas Story follows Moon, a curious young owl who unexpectedly finds himself stuck in a Christmas tree destined for Rockefeller Plaza. In his attempts to escape the bustling city, Moon befriends a lost little girl named Luna. Together, they embark on a heartwarming adventure, discovering the magic of the holiday season and forming an unlikely bond as they journey back home to their parents. (21 minutes long).
To finish the day, your kiddos will make their very own lucky mushroom gift tag. Students will leave with not only beautiful pieces of art- but also a total confidence only an art class at The Imagination Studio can bring. PA DAY Camps at The Imagination Studio carve out a special kind of creative magic for your kids.
Gnomes made in this camp will need to be baked at home in the oven at 210 degrees for 15 minutes.
