Van Gogh KIDS OIL PAINTING SESSIONS

FALL 2021

Join me at the studio for a special Van Gogh master class after school! Your kiddos will study, experience and paint van Gogh famous Sunflowers with me using my artist oil paints. Did you know Van Gogh produced 2 series of sunflowers? The Paris paintings were made around 1887 and the Arles series around 1889. Van Gogh was one of the first artists to use new vivid colours of yellow, like chrome yellow which were first manufactured in the 19th century. This series highlights his progression of colour and style and extend far beyond the Sunflowers painting we might think to know. These classes will teach your children advanced colour theory and deepen their understanding of what painting can be for kids.

I literally can’t wait for the studio to be dripping in sunflower paintings during our session and know this work will find a special place in your home forever. This painting series is close to my heart. I remember as a young child making use of an arbitrary paint-by-numbers oils pod and looking to our very large reproduction Van Gogh sunflowers at home. On a small piece of cardboard, I recreated The Arles Sunflowers, August 1888 (Third Version) and it proudly leaned beside our big reproduction for years reminding me of my love for painting and resourcefulness to experience it.

Students will flourish in beautiful and immersive under-painting and sub-sequential progressive art lessons while being nurtured with my wholehearted mentorship in the studio. Their confidence will grow with every brushstroke as they transform their paint board from white space to realized representation inspired by of one of the most important painters in the canon. Together we will learn how to capture the essence of the sunflowers composition, specific colour palette in your child’s own style and with a painter’s heart.

Painting experience is not necessary to enjoy this class. Students will leave with not only a beautiful heirloom painting but a total confidence only an art class at The Imagination Studio can bring.
